BFLA receives generous donation from PAHO towards diabetes initiative

BFLA/NHI clinic/ Belize Family Life Association received a very generous donation from PAHO-WHO. The supplies will be used for continuous glucose testing in the city whilst providing diabetes education, giving preventative methods; hence, creating awareness of the chronic condition or illness in the country.

To strengthen the capacity to screen for diabetes in a timely manner, through the European Union Directorate-General for International Partnerships (formerly EU-DEVCO), PAHO-WHO Belize donated five (5) one Touch Ultra 2 Glucometers, 5,000 Glucose Strips and 1,000 Lancets to the Belize Family Life Association.
Persons with chronic diseases, such as diabetes, are at higher risk of getting severely ill from SARS-CoV-2. Thus, it is crucial to recognize diabetes as a very significant underlying disease of #COVID19. It has also been shown that many young persons and adults are not aware of their levels of blood sugar. Therefore, making timely screenings are important measures to diagnosing persons with diabetes.
